Grocer’s Central Alliance and Unilever Philippines
On-Shelf Availability is a major issue faced by suppliers and retailers these days. No amount of investment on promotions and in-store displays will propel growth if the products are not on shelf. With this in mind, Unilever and GROCENT , a group of 56 medium to small sized independent supermarkets, embarked on a project that improved its supply chain process.

These improvements included changes in technology, efficient information exchange and integrated online network collaboration that required a higher level of partnership.
Realizing the numerous challenges brought about by today’s fiercely competitive market, Unilever and GROCENT recognized a common need—delighting the consumer. And how else to delight the consumer but by making sure that the products are available in the branches. By end 2003, there were two evident opportunities: Days Stock Cover at the GROCENT warehouse was high, and On-Shelf Availability was low in the branches.
Both parties agreed on a four-phase step process to meet this tough challenge of collaborating towards on-shelf availability:
1. Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI),
2. Out–of- Stock Study, 3. Addressing the Out–of-Stock Issues, and 4. Post-Audit. Arthur Cabradilla and Jessica Manalo, Unilever |
